I am an artist of the landscape of common objects. Discarded items and suburban life fuel my art practice.

Off the Square exhibition 10 – 26 May 2013

Here is advanced notice of an exhibition, which will include my work, to be held at the Belconnen Arts Centre from 10 to 26 May 2013.

Off the Square, curated by Peter Haynes, consultant curator, writer and art historian, presents works by Craft ACT’s vibrant membership of craft practitioners and designer makers. Highlighted will be a variety of approaches to medium and practice.

The opening will be at 5.30 pm on Friday 10 May and there will be a meet the artists event at 2.00pm Saturday 18 May.

A4 Project #13, a bit delayed

I finished this piece several weeks ago, but in the interim I’ve been side-tracked making work for an upcoming exhibition.

I found a breathing space today to scan this piece, which has generated some new ideas for work. The tag on the base fabric, cut from a pair of jeans inspired me to focus on stitching words. Some were stitched over newspaper headings and the section of straight lines was stitched over a page from a novel, “Nurse in the Orient”, (which we got from Tiny’s Green Shed, with a view to re-using the cover for a book of our own handmade paper).

The biggest challenge was removing the paper after I’d stitched over it without pulling out all the threads.
