I’ve mentioned the Zoom get together I have most weeks with art friends. This time I sketched the meeting itself.
I’m testing out some materials I don’t usually work with. I’m using hot press paper – I generally use cold press – and a flat brush, not my regular round brushes.

If it’s a less than satisfying result it’s because I’m forgetting that I’m doing this precisely because I need to get some ‘brush miles’ up. Without practice and learning how to use these different techniques, I can’t expect to get consistent results.
I like it. You’ve abstractified the scene so I’m enjoying how the shapes work together while also seeing and identifying the actual real person and furniture etc.

Thanks Claudia. I feel that the flat brush helps that process. It really restricts the strokes and forces me to simplify the composition. I’m testing it on a new sketchbook consisting of two different watercolour papers, which I’m trying out prior to travelling later this year. I’m also waiting on some bright white paper to see if the colours on my palette will look better (or not) on that type of paper.

Its funny when you have to get the hang of a new colour/medium/brush/paper, it does just take time and practice and pushing past the “annoyed” stage.

Yes, I’m still a bit at the ‘annoyed stage’ I think.
